Q1How does Google support media agencies?

You said, you know, you bring the best of Google to media agencies. And so can you tell me what exactly do you mean by that? And what is the real purpose of the role that you play at Google today?

Amita Mehra

That’s a great question, and thank you for deeply reading through my profile. So my job in Google is to manage media partnerships for Singapore, media agency partnerships for Singapore. What it means is that the way our platforms, our products work, they actually are to deliver for the advertisers. The results are for the advertisers. But media agencies are key partners to actually use these products to drive those results for the advertisers.

So my real job is to make sure that the agencies can navigate our products, our org structures, as well as our ecosystem very well. So it’s actually beneficial for them when they use our products for the advertisers.

Swami

Okay, so what does that mean? So if I were a say a media agency and if I had a set of advertisers, how do you think advertisers should leverage Google and how should advertisers bring in the media agencies to get the best value for the investments that they do with the Google ad platform? So how do you see that and give me some examples of what you’ve seen work?

Amita Mehra

OK, you’re literally asking me to concise my 14 years into this conversation. So our products are really for the advertisers to drive their business outcomes through their marketing. So the idea is to make marketing their profit centers with Google’s AI -powered products. The role that media agencies play in this is very fundamental. It’s to ensure the marketers can actually navigate the ever evolving landscape of what’s always happening, whether it’s consumer behavior, media consumption, channel proliferation, regulatory environment, or a new technology. For instance, now the AI is actually all around us. So it’s their job to stay on top of all of this while optimizing the business outcomes for the advertisers. So…the way my role translates is to make sure that the agencies that I work with, they stand out, they’re able to talk the advertisers through all the complexities and unknowns with all the insights, understanding of our products and have a really good track record of driving results for the advertisers.

00:06:22 – 00:11:30

Q2 Why is marketing experimentation crucial?

Swami

Okay, and so one of the things that I read in many of the articles that were shared and I did a bit of digging around in many of the stuff that you’ve done. One thing that you talk about very passionately and what you go with with media agencies and this partnership that you talk about is you talk about in digital marketing the need for brands to embrace experimentation. Right. So why do you think this is so critical? And if I were a marketer and if I were a, you know, a media head, this whole thing around experimentation is something which is a big idea that you talk about. So how do you really, you know, look at embracing experiment experimentation and what does it include? And how do you really think about this whole framework of embracing experimentation?

Amita Mehra

First of all, I personally think that we all are experimenting at all time, and that’s exactly how we develop, learn, grow in any aspect of life. So experimentation as a philosophy is a critical part of our life. When we talk about marketing, now, as I touched upon a little bit, marketing environment is constantly evolving not just by how consumers are shifting, also by the technology that’s shifting. In fact, if you look at the last couple of few years, most of the business leaders are actually pressured toward profitability. They’re making ruthless prioritization of their budgets, where to put the budgets in. And somewhere marketing has a key role to make sure that, you know, we are constantly experimenting what works, what does not work what delivers better financial ROI, how do we make better connections with our consumers, and also to some degree, how do we make our lives as marketers easier so that we can make sure that we are delivering those results for the business. So that’s why experimentation is super critical.
